Our verdict on Musicnotes
Musicnotes combines a digital sheet music store with apps for musicians, teachers, and students who want licensed arrangements alongside tools for practice and performance. Arrangements cover instruments and skill levels, and scores can be purchased individually, opened in the apps, or printed. Musicnotes has offered the service since 1998, with access through web, Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. Its focus is useful for people who want to manage scores as well as buy them, rather than use a general-purpose music library alone.
The app tools extend beyond viewing. Buyers can import PDFs, sort music into folders and set lists, and mark scores with pens, highlighters, text, and symbols. Playback includes looping, tempo adjustment, and audio mix controls; supported sheet music can be transposed. Previously downloaded music is available offline, which suits practice or performance away from a connection. These features make Musicnotes a broader workflow for keeping and working through scores, although transposition is not available for every score.
Musicnotes uses a freemium model, and individual sheet music purchases remain separate from its recurring Pro memberships. Pro highlights include 25% off website digital sheet music purchases, synced folders, set lists and markup, and PDF downloads for eligible purchases while the subscription is active. Pro Premium adds a monthly Pro Credit or 12 Pro Credits per year, plus 10 Musicnotes Editions per month. Pro for Education is free for approved education applicants and includes discounts and syncing benefits. Choose Musicnotes if licensed purchases and score-management tools belong in the same workflow; those seeking a subscription that replaces song-by-song purchases should look elsewhere.
