Snowflake Notebooks is a managed, Jupyter-compatible development environment for data scientists, data engineers, and machine-learning teams working with Snowflake data. It supports Python, SQL, and Markdown cells, interactive exploration, visualization, model development, inference, and production data pipelines. Workspaces add file management, shared workspaces, role-based access controls, Git-integrated collaboration, version history, and interactive Python file execution. It is best suited to teams that want notebook development close to governed Snowflake data rather than a standalone notebook environment.
Pricing is consumption-based and varies by cloud provider, region, edition, and account type. The Standard plan includes core platform functionality, fully managed elastic compute, data sharing, and Time Travel. Enterprise adds multi-cluster compute, granular governance and privacy controls, and extended Time Travel windows. Business Critical adds Tri-Secret Secure, private connectivity, and failover and failback. Virtual Private Snowflake includes Business Critical features in an isolated Snowflake environment. These tiers make the product applicable across different governance and infrastructure requirements, while the final cost depends on usage and account configuration.
The platform fits closely with the Snowflake data platform and integrates with Git, Streamlit, Altair, Matplotlib, and seaborn. Managed CPU and GPU compute, notebook scheduling, orchestration, and native machine-learning support give teams a path from preparation and experimentation toward repeatable workflows. Snowflake is also transitioning users from Legacy Notebooks to Notebooks in Workspaces. Choose Snowflake Notebooks when governed Snowflake access, collaboration, and managed compute are central to the workflow. Consider another notebook product when the work must remain independent of Snowflake or outside a web-based environment.
