SmarTTY is a free Windows desktop SSH client for connecting to remote servers, managing multiple terminal sessions, transferring files and directories with SCP, and editing remote files in place. It is aimed at Windows users who want file operations alongside terminal access without moving between separate applications. Supported Windows versions include Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7, and 2008, and the product is available as either an installer or a portable application. The Free plan includes a multi-tabbed SSH client, SCP transfers, and in-place remote file editing, and the product is offered for individual and company use.

Its strongest area is the combination of terminal and remote file workflows. Multiple SSH tabs and sessions keep connections organized, while smart command and file completion can assist with terminal work. A remote file navigation panel provides a direct way to browse server files, and the in-place editor avoids a separate transfer-edit-upload cycle. Public-key authentication uses Windows key containers. For environments that use Linux package managers, SmarTTY adds graphical interfaces for APT and YUM. Integrated X11 application support, with XMing and VcXsrv listed among its integrations, extends its usefulness beyond a text-only terminal.

SmarTTY also supports serial and TCP terminal connections, giving it uses beyond SSH sessions. Its session model is tab-based, and its supported protocols are SSH and SCP. That focus makes it a practical choice for Windows users who prioritize remote file editing and straightforward server access. It is less suitable for buyers seeking a wider SSH client feature set, particularly workflows centered on SFTP or port forwarding. Choose SmarTTY when free Windows software with SCP, tabs, completion, and remote editing matches the workflow; consider another client when broader protocol or forwarding support is central.
