Our verdict on shortshort
shortshort is a web app for creators, podcasters, educators, and teams turning long videos into vertical clips. Its AI selects passages that form complete sentences, automatically crops to 9:16 around the visible face, and adds word-timed captions in four styles. An editor lets users adjust cuts, framing, and captions before exporting vertical MP4 video at 1080 × 1920. Uploads can be up to three hours and 2 GB, making it suited to substantial recordings and interviews.
The published plans use credits based on source-video minutes. Free accounts receive 60 credits. Starter costs €12 per month or €115 per year and includes 480 credits, up to five shorts per video, no watermark, and private exports. Creator costs €29 monthly or €278 annually for 1,600 credits, up to 10 shorts per video, server rendering, a priority processing queue, and credit top-ups. Studio costs €79 monthly or €758 annually, increasing the allowance to 6,000 credits and up to 20 shorts per video while adding one reusable brand preset, JSON edit-plan export, and priority support. The plans do not define a fixed number of clips per month because usage depends on source length.
For distribution, shortshort lists YouTube and TikTok integrations, though publishing is early access. The product runs in the cloud through a web interface, with email support. Studio’s brand preset and JSON export make it more practical for repeatable team workflows, while face tracking and caption editing suit social-video production. Its scope is narrower than a full transcript-to-post system, and there is no native desktop deployment listed. Choose shortshort for fast, face-centered vertical repurposing; consider an alternative if you need broader publishing automation or transcript-driven content workflows.
