ServiceNow Discovery identifies hardware, software, applications, networks, cloud resources, and containers across hybrid IT environments. It is designed for organizations that need configuration-item discovery connected to a ServiceNow CMDB, including teams managing on-premises infrastructure, private networks, and multiple cloud providers. Agentless operation, scheduled or manual runs, and application fingerprints support a broad discovery program without narrowing the product to a single asset type.
The product is sold as part of ServiceNow IT Operations Management. The ITOM Advanced plan includes Discovery, Service Mapping, and Certificate Inventory and Management. ITOM Prime includes the ITOM Advanced capabilities, including Discovery, and adds Event Management and Service Observability. Discovery is purchased as a separate subscription through contact sales, so it suits organizations prepared to evaluate it within a wider ServiceNow ITOM investment rather than buyers seeking a standalone self-serve tool. Integrations include Service Graph Connectors, SCCM, and ServiceNow CMDB, with web, API, and self-hosted platform support.

Discovery covers AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM, and OCI, as well as internal IP networks, routers, switches, subnets, hardware, software packages, and file-based discovery for installed or unregistered software. MID Servers communicate with private networks, while CMDB matching and updates turn discovery results into configuration data. AI-powered application fingerprints add another layer for identifying applications. Choose ServiceNow Discovery when enterprise-scale coverage and CMDB alignment are central requirements. Organizations seeking a narrowly focused asset inventory or a product with publicly listed self-serve pricing should consider a different approach.
