Sequin review
Open-source PostgreSQL CDC with broad sink coverage and self-hosted operations.

Sequin is an open-source, self-hosted change data capture tool for teams that need to stream PostgreSQL changes into downstream systems. It uses PostgreSQL logical replication to deliver inserts, updates, and deletes in real time. The product is aimed at engineering teams building event-driven workflows, search synchronization, cache updates, queue-based processing, or webhook delivery from a PostgreSQL system of record.
Its strongest area is destination coverage. Sequin supports Kafka, AWS SQS, GCP Pub/Sub, Redis Streams, NATS, AWS Kinesis, AWS SNS, Azure Event Hubs, RabbitMQ, and S2, along with Elasticsearch, Typesense, Meilisearch, Redis Strings, and webhooks. Events can be filtered, transformed, and routed to topics, endpoints, or indexes. Initial and partial backfills help populate downstream systems, while exactly-once processing, idempotency keys, strict ordering, and retry handling address delivery control. Prometheus metrics and a Grafana dashboard provide monitoring, and management is available through the web console, CLI, API, and configuration-as-code.
The trade-off is focus and deployment responsibility. Sequin is documented around PostgreSQL as its source database, so teams with other source systems should choose a CDC product designed for broader source coverage. Deployment is self-hosted, which suits organizations that want control over infrastructure but requires them to operate the service. Sequin Cloud was shut down on October 23, 2025, and the current product is maintained primarily with security patches and critical bug fixes. Choose Sequin for PostgreSQL-centered pipelines with varied sink requirements; look elsewhere if a managed cloud service or multiple source databases is essential.
