Our verdict on Seeneva
Seeneva is a free, open-source comic reader for Android, aimed at readers who want more than page-by-page viewing. It handles CBZ, CB7, CBT and PDF comic archives, with CBR support subject to limitations. An in-app library organizes added comics, and the app can display ComicRack metadata from ComicInfo.xml. Left-to-right and right-to-left reading directions make it relevant to both comics and manga readers, though recognition is currently worse for manga than for comics.
Its distinguishing feature is speech-balloon navigation: on-device machine learning detects balloons, letting readers zoom in and move through them. OCR extracts the detected balloon text, which can be copied, while Android text-to-speech can read recognized text aloud. Those capabilities are limited to English, so readers seeking text recognition or read-aloud in other languages should look elsewhere. The combination is particularly relevant for readers who want balloon-level access rather than only conventional page navigation.
The project describes its current release as a public beta, so readers should weigh that status when choosing a primary library app. Seeneva is a strong fit for Android readers who value balloon detection, OCR, read-aloud, archive support and an organized in-app library, especially for English-language comics. Its platform is limited to Android, and CBR comes with limitations; manga readers should also account for the weaker recognition noted by the project. Readers who need another platform, broader language support, or reliable manga balloon recognition should consider an alternative.
