SD Elements review
A broad enterprise platform for automated modeling, compliance mapping, and DevSecOps workflows.

SD Elements is Security Compass’s software security and threat-modeling platform for AppSec, development, architecture, risk, and compliance teams. It analyzes application context—including architecture, technology stack, data types, deployment environment, and regulatory scope—to generate security requirements, threats, weaknesses, countermeasures, code samples, and testing guidance. Its scope suits organizations that need threat modeling connected to compliance and developer workflows rather than teams seeking only a lightweight diagramming tool.
The published plans are Enterprise, US Federal Government, and Canadian Federal Government. Each includes security content, compliance content, developer code samples, dashboard and project reports, and advanced and trend reporting. The Enterprise plan also lists DevSecOps tool integrations, while the two federal plans list onsite deployment. SD Elements uses a paid model and does not offer a free plan, so it is oriented toward organizations prepared for an enterprise procurement process.
Its strongest differentiator is the breadth of the workflow: automated model generation, requirement creation, risk policies, mitigation prioritization, compliance and standards mapping, just-in-time training, and reporting are combined in one platform. Integrations cover Jira, GitHub, GitLab, Microsoft Azure DevOps, ServiceNow ITSM, Rally, Digital.ai Agility, Veracode, Checkmarx, Fortify, and Jenkins. Web, API, and self-hosted platforms are supported, with SaaS and customer-managed deployment options. AI Navigator and MCP access extend the workflow to coding agents. Choose SD Elements when governance, reporting, and integration depth matter; choose a narrower tool when the priority is simple standalone modeling.
SD Elements pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Generates threats, weaknesses, countermeasures, and requirements from context
- Maps requirements to compliance frameworks and prioritizes mitigation
- Connects with Jira, GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, and other DevSecOps tools
- Where it doesn't
- No free plan for teams seeking a no-cost evaluation
- Federal plan options are separated by US and Canadian government scope
- Enterprise-oriented breadth may exceed a narrow modeling workflow
