Scrumboy review
A flexible, free Kanban workspace for teams comfortable running their own server.

Scrumboy is an open-source, self-hosted project-management and Kanban application for solo developers and small teams. Its core workspace centers on customizable project workflows, configurable Done lanes, realtime multi-user board updates, and shareable boards that can be accessed anonymously. Project roles divide access among Viewers, Contributors, and Maintainers, while JSON backup and export provide a way to manage board data. A native Android client, web interface, installable PWA, and server binaries for Windows and macOS support different deployment preferences.
The pricing model is straightforward: Scrumboy is presented as free and open source rather than as a set of paid tiers. That makes it a practical fit for teams that want to control deployment and avoid plan-based feature gates. The trade-off is operational responsibility. Self-hosting requires a running Scrumboy server, and the Android client connects to that server rather than operating as a standalone workspace. Docker deployment is also available, giving teams another route for running the application.
Its strongest ecosystem advantage is flexibility around automation and data movement. Scrumboy provides REST API access, webhooks, and MCP connectivity, alongside ICS calendar feeds, Trello JSON import, and optional OIDC/SSO and two-factor authentication. These capabilities suit teams that want shareable boards and connections to their existing workflows. It is a good choice for open-source teams that value configurable permissions, collaboration, and deployment control. Teams seeking a broader Kanban feature set or a managed service with less server administration should consider a more extensive alternative instead.
