Scherlokk is a macOS utility for locating and examining files across internal, external, network, and iCloud volumes. It searches file names and contents, including text extracted from images and scanned documents through OCR. Mac users who need more control over hidden, system, non-indexed, or visually similar files will find its scope more suitable than a basic file-name search tool. It also supports flat and hierarchical result views, plus include and exclude rules for files and folders.

Scherlokk offers a 14-day trial and several paid paths. The Monthly Subscription costs $4.95 per month and the Annual Subscription costs $9.95 per year; both allow installation on 3 home Macs and can be canceled anytime. The Annual Business Subscription costs $39 per year for 5 Macs in a company and can also be canceled anytime. One-time licenses include the $29 Single User License for 3 home Macs, the $69 Small Business License for 5 company Macs, and the $399 Site License for all Macs in a company. The one-time licenses include free updates.

Its strongest distinction is breadth within desktop file search: Scherlokk combines content search, OCR, visual similarity, file and folder comparison, hidden-file discovery, and a built-in hex editor. That makes it a fit for Mac users managing varied local and synced storage or inspecting files beyond their names and extensions. The trade-off is a narrow platform and file-centered focus. It runs on macOS rather than across multiple desktop systems, and it does not cover email or message search. Choose it for detailed Mac file discovery and comparison; choose another category of tool if cross-platform coverage or communications search is central.
