Our verdict on Scan Hero

Scan Hero is a mobile document-scanning app for individuals and small businesses. It turns paperwork, receipts, contracts, cards, notes, identification documents, and book pages into PDFs or image files using an iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Automatic or manual capture, page-edge detection, multipage document creation, and editing tools cover the core scanning workflow. Users can also sign, highlight, print, share, protect, and organize scans, while QR-code scanning adds a separate utility for mobile document tasks.

Its strongest functional area is the combination of OCR and document handling. OCR extracts text and converts scans into searchable content, making the app more useful for contracts, receipts, notes, and other documents that need to be found later. Editing includes cropping, perspective correction, borders, filters, contrast, and rotation. Passcode or password protection supports documents that need an additional privacy control, while electronic signatures and highlighting reduce the need for separate editing tools.

Cloud sharing connects Scan Hero with Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, and iCloud. The published subscription plan includes OCR plus unlimited scanning and sharing, and the official site advertises a 3-day free trial. Scan Hero is a practical choice for people who want a broad set of scanning features on a phone or tablet, especially when searchable PDFs and cloud uploads matter. It is less suitable for teams seeking a desktop-centered workflow or broader platform coverage. Users who need straightforward mobile capture, editing, signing, and sharing should find the feature set aligned with those tasks.
