Scaleway Functions is a managed serverless compute service for application components, APIs, automation tasks, and data-processing workloads. Functions run on demand, scale according to incoming requests, and can scale to zero when unused. It supports JavaScript/Node.js, Python, Go, PHP, and Rust, with HTTP and CRON triggers. Teams can also use custom domains with HTTPS certificates, private functions, environment variables, secrets, and private network connectivity. It is a strong fit for developers who want several runtime choices and already operate workloads in Scaleway's cloud environment.

Pricing follows a pay-as-you-go model based on function duration, with monthly free tiers for requests and resource consumption. The service does not use fixed subscription plans, so costs depend on invocation activity and resource use. That structure suits irregular workloads and event-driven applications, particularly when scale-to-zero behavior can reduce idle execution. Buyers planning predictable, continuously running workloads may prefer a service with simpler fixed pricing or a clearer monthly commitment.

Scaleway Functions connects with Scaleway Managed Databases, Object Storage, Messaging and Queuing, VPC and Private Networks, and Scaleway Cockpit. Logs and metrics are available through Cockpit, while IAM or token-based controls support private functions. Deployment can happen through the Console, API, CLI, Terraform/OpenTofu, or Serverless Framework, giving infrastructure teams several operating paths. Choose it for multi-tool cloud functions that need private networking, secrets, observability, and multiple deployment methods. Choose an alternative if a free plan, a fixed starting price, or a broader provider-neutral ecosystem is a priority.

Scaleway Functions pros and cons

    • Terraform/OpenTofu, API, CLI, and Console deployment options.
  • Where it doesn't
    • No free plan is available.
    • Billing is duration-based and pay-as-you-go.
    • The service is centered on the Scaleway ecosystem.
