Our verdict on Safe Surfer
Safe Surfer is internet-filtering and parental-control software for individuals, families, schools, and organizations. It combines category blocking with custom allowlists and blocklists, SafeSearch controls, YouTube filtering, screen-time schedules, browsing-history views, and activity alerts. Protection is available across web, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, existing routers, DNS, and the Lifeguard Router, making it suitable for households managing a mix of devices and connection types.
Its strongest fit is detailed family oversight. Safe Surfer blocks more than 50 categories, including adult content, ads, malware, social media, games, and gambling, while allowing rules for individual websites or domains. Timetables and timers can apply to websites, apps, or internet access. Email alerts can be sent to multiple people on configurable schedules, and remote administration lets account managers adjust devices and filtering rules through a web dashboard. Search controls cover Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Brave Search, and Ecosia, with Moderate or Strict filtering modes for YouTube.
The freemium model provides a free filtering option, while Pro Surfer Monthly and Pro Surfer Annual add five-device coverage and paid-tier capabilities. The monthly plan lists screen-time management, detailed browsing history, email alerts, social-media monitoring, and nudity detection; the annual plan includes all Pro Surfer features with annual billing. Privacy controls allow logging to be cleared or disabled, and DNS-based deployment can extend filtering beyond individual apps. Safe Surfer suits families that want layered controls and alerts across varied platforms. It is less suitable when monitoring features must work uniformly across every device or when a household needs coverage beyond five devices on the paid plans.
