Ruleblade Guard brings firewall change requests, approvals and deployment into a web interface for application owners and security teams. It is aimed at mid-market and enterprise organizations managing firewall policies across multiple vendors, particularly teams that want governed, self-hosted operations. The product also supports MSSP use, with application-centric policy management as its organizing approach.

Its strongest fit is policy change control across the supported firewall ecosystem: Fortinet FortiGate, Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS and Panorama, Check Point Security Gateway, and Stormshield Network Security. Guard offers a unified API and web interface, automated multi-vendor deployment, searchable change history and real-time change tracking. Blade Risk applies 25+ security controls, while rule analysis identifies shadowed, unused and overly permissive rules. Configuration-drift detection and continuous synchronization help teams track policy changes beyond an individual deployment. Bulk import from Excel or direct data sources provides another way to bring policy information in.

The published plans divide capabilities between Ruleblade Smart Changes and Ruleblade Advanced. Smart Changes includes Blade Risk, daily policy revisions, REST API access, change history, real-time tracking and read-only mode. Advanced adds smart auto-implementation, smart factoring, object-group synchronization, a migration checker, Kubernetes clustering and autoscaling, and Platinum support. Pricing is contact-sales, so buyers should expect to discuss subscription terms directly. Guard is deployed as a self-hosted VM; cloud-native AWS and Azure firewall support is described as roadmap-only. Choose it when on-prem teams need controlled, multi-vendor change workflows and rule review; consider alternatives if cloud-native firewall support is essential or the listed integrations do not cover your environment.

Ruleblade Guard pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Routes firewall requests through review, approval and deployment workflows
    • Scores risk and detects shadowed, unused or overly permissive rules
    • Tracks configuration drift and supports campaign-based recertification
  • Where it doesn't
    • Pricing requires contacting sales rather than choosing a published price
    • Listed integrations cover five vendor products
    • AWS and Azure cloud-native firewall support is only on the roadmap
