Our verdict on RomsOrganizer
RomsOrganizer is a free, open-source application for Batocera users who need to identify duplicate ROMs and organize their game libraries. It detects duplicates by filename and copy suffixes, groups compressed and uncompressed variants such as CHD and CUE/BIN, and uses 1G1R grouping to find region and revision variants. Exact-content matching uses file hashes, while selected ROM variants can also be compared with a bundled RetroAchievements hash database.
Its strongest operational feature is the combination of cleanup tools and safeguards. RomsOrganizer can remove duplicate or orphaned gamelist entries and move misplaced ROMs into the expected system directory. Rather than deleting duplicates outright, it moves them to a recovery folder. Dry-run previews allow changes to be reviewed before they are applied, and backup and restore workflows provide an additional way to manage library edits. The application installs from GitHub, appears in Batocera’s PORTS menu, and provides a controller-friendly pygame interface.
RomsOrganizer is a focused choice for Batocera owners dealing with duplicated files, mixed formats, regional variants, or inconsistent gamelists. Its scope is narrower than a general ROM management tool: verified platform coverage is Batocera, metadata scraping is not included, file renaming is not provided, and archive support is basic. Choose it when duplicate detection, hash matching, gamelist cleanup, and cautious file organization are the priority. Look elsewhere if you need broader platform coverage, metadata management, or automated renaming as part of the workflow.
