restdb.io review
A hosted JSON document database for API-first business applications.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
restdb.io is a cloud-hosted NoSQL document database for web, serverless, and business applications. It stores JSON document collections, supports MongoDB-like queries, and automatically generates REST and JavaScript APIs. Teams manage schemas, fields, collections, and relations through a browser interface, while applications exchange documents over HTTPS. It is suited to developers and business teams that want a managed database with API access, authentication, and collaboration features in one service.
Pricing is organized per database. The Development Free plan includes 3 Devs/Editors/Users, 2,500 records, a maximum of 1 API call per second and 500 daily, 100MB of media storage, a 1MB file-size limit, and Codehooks & Jobs. Standard costs $19 per database per month with annual billing or $29 monthly, with 5 Devs/Editors/Users, 100,000 records, a maximum of 10 API calls per second, 20GB of media storage, and a 15MB file-size limit. Premium costs $79 annually or $99 monthly, increasing those limits to 50 Devs/Editors/Users, 5 million records, 20 API calls per second, 50GB of media storage, and 50MB files.
Its platform fit is practical for API-first projects. Authentication options include API keys, JWT, CORS, and Auth0, with role-based access control for permissions. Webhooks, server-side JavaScript codehooks, realtime messaging over HTTP EventSource, media storage, and import from Excel, CSV, and JSON extend the database beyond basic document storage. Zapier, MongoDB, Auth0, and webhooks are listed integrations or connection points. Choose restdb.io when hosted JSON data, generated APIs, and browser-based management are priorities; choose another database when the free limits, per-database pricing, API ceilings, or 100 KB JSON document limit do not fit the workload.
