ReportServer is a self-hosted, web-based reporting platform for organizations that need pixel-perfect documents alongside ad hoc relational reports, OLAP analysis, dashboards, and interactive views. It suits enterprise teams managing reporting infrastructure directly, especially where unlimited users, open-source licensing, and control over deployment matter. Reports can be parameterized, exported, scheduled, and distributed through email or shared TeamSpaces.

The Community Edition is available under an AGPL license and includes unlimited users, ad hoc reporting, pixel-perfect reporting, community forums, and documentation. A 45-day free trial is also available. Enterprise Edition costs €3,999 per server with a perpetual license and one year of upgrades included; its added capabilities include enterprise scripting, theming, and ticket-system access. Renewal after the first year costs €1,999 per server and includes discounted access to new releases. A Corporate License provides the full feature set plus technical support and updates during a one-year license term. This structure makes the product appealing when server-based licensing and self-hosting are more important than per-user pricing.

Its feature depth is the main differentiator. ReportServer supports BIRT, JasperReports, Mondrian, Microsoft Excel, SAP Crystal Reports, and script-based reports, while Groovy scripting extends reports, data sources, and other functions. Integrations include LDAP, single sign-on, Amazon S3, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, SFTP, FTP, FTPS, and Samba/SMB/CIFS. Dashboards can include embeddable reports and HTML5 micro-apps, and scheduled outputs can be sent across multiple channels. Choose ReportServer for a broad, self-managed reporting environment; teams seeking a hosted service or a narrower reporting workflow may prefer a simpler alternative.
