Our verdict on replenishment

replenishment is an open-source Python library for developers and small teams building or evaluating inventory-replenishment logic. It simulates replenishment policies against historical or synthetic demand, optimizes safety-stock and percentile-target policies, and visualizes policy decisions on replenishment time series. CSV and DataFrame workflows make it suitable for teams that already manage demand data in Python, while notebook examples provide a starting point for simulation and optimization workflows. The project is oriented toward development and analysis rather than day-to-day inventory management through a hosted application.

Its strongest capability is the focused set of replenishment-policy and safety-stock methods. Users can apply mean-forecast safety-stock optimization, k*RMSE and k*MAE methods, percentile-target policy optimization, and forecast-level buffering for point-forecast policies. Visual policy comparison helps developers examine alternative decisions on replenishment time series instead of evaluating one policy in isolation. This makes the library a practical fit for testing replenishment assumptions, comparing policy behavior, and incorporating simulation into a Python-based workflow.

The trade-off is breadth. replenishment does not present the wider operational scope associated with full inventory optimization suites, including multi-location, multi-echelon, and service-level capabilities. Installation is provided through pip, and the project is tested with Python 3.10 through 3.13; support is provided through documentation. Choose it when the priority is an open-source, developer-oriented environment for replenishment simulation and policy optimization. Choose an alternative when you need hosted inventory management or broader network-level optimization functions.
