Redgate SQL Backup Pro review
A focused SQL Server backup suite for teams that need control, verification, and PITR.

Redgate SQL Backup Pro is installed software for backing up, restoring, verifying, compressing, and encrypting Microsoft SQL Server databases. It is designed for database administrators and IT teams managing individual servers, clustered deployments, or larger SQL Server estates. The product supports scheduled full, differential, and transaction-log backups, along with transaction-log point-in-time restore and log shipping with self-healing transfer queues. Its Windows-only, self-hosted deployment keeps the focus on SQL Server operations rather than cross-database coverage.
Backup integrity is a central strength. Scheduled restore verification uses DBCC CHECKDB, while CHECKSUM and RESTORE VERIFYONLY provide additional backup checks. Teams can manage backup and restore operations through a centralized GUI, command-line scripting, and SQL Server Agent integration. Up to 95% compression can reduce backup size, and 128-bit and 256-bit AES encryption protect backup data. Network-resilient transfers with automatic resuming are useful for environments where transfer interruptions could complicate routine protection tasks. Amazon S3 and Azure hosted storage are supported integrations.
Pricing is licensed per server and billed annually. The 1–4 servers plan starts at $666 per server per year, and the published plan structure also includes 5–9 servers, 10–19 servers, and 20+ servers, with personalized pricing for 20+ servers. A 14-day free trial is available, but there is no free plan. SQL Backup Pro suits organizations that prioritize SQL Server backup controls, verification, compression, encryption, and centralized administration. It is less suitable for teams needing multi-database support, non-Windows deployment, or a lower-cost entry point.
