Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform is a subscription-based Java application server for organizations developing, deploying, and managing enterprise applications. JBoss EAP 8 supports Jakarta EE 10 Core, Web, and Full Platform profiles, making it suited to teams standardizing enterprise Java across on-premises, virtual, private-cloud, public-cloud, hybrid-cloud, and containerized environments. It is especially relevant to organizations already operating Red Hat technologies and requiring managed administration, messaging, caching, and high availability.
Its strongest fit is complex, distributed application infrastructure. Managed-domain administration covers multiple server instances and hosts, while high-availability clustering adds load balancing and failover. Infinispan provides distributed caching, and the platform includes messaging and enterprise application services. Administration is available through a web-based console plus command-line, Java, and HTTP management APIs. These capabilities give platform teams several management paths, but they also make JBoss EAP a more substantial choice than a narrowly focused server.
Deployment flexibility extends to Red Hat OpenShift, Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, with support for containerized and self-hosted environments. The published support plans include Standard business-hours support with web and phone channels and unlimited support cases. Premium adds 24x7 coverage for severity 1 and 2 cases while retaining business-hours coverage for severity 3 and 4 cases. Organizations needing Jakarta EE compatibility, clustering, and Red Hat ecosystem alignment should consider it; teams seeking a free plan or a simpler application-server footprint should look elsewhere.
