Our verdict on Reading.com
Reading.com is a mobile reading program from Teaching.com for children ages 3–8 and the adults who teach them. Its core path uses 120 step-by-step phonics lessons, beginning with letter recognition and letter-sound instruction before moving into decoding through letter blending. Interactive games, co-read stories with hidden illustrations, comprehension questions, and reading-fluency development extend practice beyond individual letter sounds. An optional placement assessment helps position a child within the program, while teacher accounts support classroom and larger-group use.
For families, the Parent Subscription offers monthly or yearly options, a seven-day free trial, and support for up to three children. Teacher Accounts use annual licenses and include a Teacher Portal with quotes, receipts, and invoices, along with a separate 30-day free trial. This structure gives parents a home-learning route and gives educators an account designed for administrative needs. Families looking for a free reading app should look elsewhere, as Reading.com is a paid product without a free plan.
The learning experience is intentionally focused on early reading foundations rather than a broad educational platform. Its mix of scripted phonics, decoding, stories, comprehension, and fluency makes it suitable for children who benefit from a guided progression and adult participation. Reading.com is available on iOS, Android, and Fire Tablets, but not on desktop computers, Chromebooks, or browsers. Choose it when step-by-step phonics is the priority and mobile access fits your household or classroom; consider an alternative if web access, broader subject coverage, or a free plan matters more.
