Our verdict on Rakuten Viki
Rakuten Viki is a video-on-demand service centered on Asian television shows and films. It suits viewers who want a broad Asian catalog, community-translated subtitles, and the option to watch some programming without a subscription. The service is available through web, iOS, and Android apps, with additional supported streaming-player and television devices described by the vendor.
Its freemium structure starts with selected ad-supported titles in standard definition. Viki Pass Standard removes ads, adds access to exclusive titles, and supports HD playback up to 720p with one simultaneous stream. Viki Pass Plus adds Full HD playback up to 1080p, up to four simultaneous streams in selected regions, and offline viewing for eligible titles in supported regions. Standard and Plus are offered with monthly or annual billing, while plan availability and charges can vary by region and local currency.
Platform coverage includes web, mobile apps, Android TV, Google TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Chromecast, LG TV, and Samsung TV. Subtitle support is central to the service, though downloaded subtitle availability depends on completion and the selected language. Support is provided through documentation and ticket channels. Choose Rakuten Viki if Asian programming, subtitle variety, and a free viewing option matter more than a uniform video-quality ceiling. Viewers who require 4K playback, unrestricted offline access, or region-independent features should consider a service whose plans explicitly provide those capabilities.
