RailRocket provides managed cloud development workspaces tied to Git branches. It is aimed at developers and teams who want branches or pull requests to have their own environments, rather than sharing a single development workspace. Developers can work in browser-based VS Code or connect desktop editors and terminals over SSH. Workspaces include a runtime, dependencies, environment variables, exposed ports, and optional isolated Postgres; repository setup is configured in railrocket.yml. The free Hacker plan and 14-day trial give teams a way to evaluate the service before paying.

The branch-to-workspace model is the product’s defining strength. Connected Git providers can automatically create workspaces and map them to branches, while integrations include GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket Cloud, Codeberg, and Forgejo. Teams can share workspaces by URL, with an optional read-only mode, and use preview URLs to review running applications. Public preview URLs are included on Hacker; private URLs with password gates are a Team feature. This makes RailRocket a fit for teams that need isolated review environments and want developers to keep using familiar editors over SSH. It is less suited to a workflow centered on AI coding assistance, which is not a listed feature.

The published plans show Hacker at $0 per month, with no credit card required, public preview URLs, and community Discord. Team costs $29 per developer per month and adds unlimited workspaces and compute, shared workspaces, private preview URLs, Git-provider integrations, and email support. Org costs $79 per developer per month and adds SSO, SAML, and SCIM provisioning, custom machine types, configurable audit log retention, private VPC peering, and a dedicated success manager. Choose Team when branch-specific workspaces and private previews justify per-developer pricing; consider Org when its identity and infrastructure controls matter. Hacker is the lower-commitment option for public previews, but teams needing private previews must move to Team or Org.
