Ragen is an open-source retrieval-augmented generation platform for companies that want AI assistants grounded in internal documents and connected business tools. It supports document-based assistants, specialized departmental assistants, website chatbots, and agent integrations. Its permission model includes access controls by file, folder, and department, making it suited to organizations that need assistants to respect internal information boundaries.

The Self-hosted edition has no licence fees and provides a Docker image for deployment on company infrastructure or cloud accounts. It includes document-grounded assistants, website chatbots, MCP integrations, and departmental roles and permissions. The Enterprise edition adds on-premise rollout support, custom MCP integrations, white-label chatbots, automatic PII masking, BYOK/CMEK encryption keys, audit logs, SLA, and priority support. Enterprise is offered through a contact-sales plan rather than a published numeric price.

Ragen’s retrieval stack combines dense and BM25 sparse search with multi-query expansion and optional cross-encoder reranking. Generated answers can include source citations, while administrative controls cover AI usage, cost, teams, and permissions. The platform also connects with tools including Google Drive, HubSpot, ClickUp, Fireflies.ai, Google Calendar, Gmail, Slack, Notion, Google Analytics, WooCommerce, Open Mercato, and Rejestr.io. Its OpenAI-compatible API, TypeScript SDK, and MCP server extend access beyond the web interface. Ragen fits teams prepared to operate self-hosted infrastructure and manage knowledge permissions; teams seeking a fully managed SaaS product should consider another option.
