Our verdict on Python Open Room Correction (PORC)
Python Open Room Correction (PORC) is a command-line DSP tool for generating loudspeaker-room correction filters. It models transfer functions, applies fixed-pole parallel-filter equalization, and supports mixed-phase compensation and configurable target-response curves. The workflow is aimed at solo users and small setups running Windows or Linux who already work with measured impulse-response data and want to create convolution filters for stereo playback.
PORC is free and has no paid tiers. Its processing accepts measurements from Room EQ Wizard, Holm Impulse or Arta, then produces selectable tap counts and output formats for PC playback workflows. Integrations include foobar2000 convolver, jconvolver, Jack and OpenDRC; binary 32-bit floating-point output is available for OpenDRC. This makes PORC suitable for users assembling a software-based convolution chain rather than looking for an all-in-one room-correction application. The scope remains focused on stereo correction and desktop deployment.
Setup requires external measurement software, a calibrated microphone and a Python environment with Python 2.7, SciPy, NumPy and Matplotlib. Users must supply speaker impulse-response data and operate the processing through command-line options, so onboarding is more technical than in tools that combine measurement, filter design and playback control. Email and documentation support are available. Choose PORC if you want configurable filter generation and can manage the measurement and convolution components yourself; choose another option if built-in room measurement, a graphical workflow or broader system coverage is essential.
