Our verdict on Dirac Live
Dirac Live measures how speakers interact with a room, analyzes those measurements, and generates custom correction filters. It is aimed at home hi-fi systems, home theaters and music studios, with workflows for established stereo and multichannel setups. Users can choose Room Correction (stereo) for stereo processing or Room Correction (full) for multichannel processing. Filters can be uploaded to compatible AVRs, soundbars and streamers, or applied to computer audio through the standalone application or a DAW plug-in. Optional Bass Control and Active Room Treatment add-ons extend the system beyond its core correction workflow.
Its standout capability is the combination of multi-position measurement, automatic filter generation and time-domain correction. An external microphone captures room behavior from several positions, after which Dirac Live can address frequency response, volume and timing through impulse-response correction. Speaker phase alignment, custom target curves and full-range or limited-bandwidth correction let users shape the result around a room and listening preference. On-device filter processing is available for compatible audio devices, while real-time desktop processing covers computer-based playback on Windows and macOS; iOS and Android are also supported.
Setup requires measurement hardware, a compatible playback device or computer workflow, and decisions about target curves and correction bandwidth. The paid plans separate stereo and full multichannel processing rather than presenting one universal license, so the appropriate edition depends on the system. Dirac Live fits listeners who want measured, configurable correction across home theater, hi-fi or studio environments. It is less suitable for buyers seeking a free tool, AI-driven adjustments, or a correction process that works without an external microphone and compatible hardware.
