PyRoboSim is an open-source 2D mobile robot simulator for prototyping robot behavior in simplified environments. It suits developers and researchers who want to create worlds manually or programmatically, define custom robot actions, and develop task and motion planners before moving to more realistic simulation or physical hardware. Its focus is early-stage behavior work rather than high-fidelity simulation, so teams needing realistic environments should look elsewhere for that stage of development.

The feature set centers on configurable robot linear and angular dynamics, extensible path-planner plugins, and sensor models. Worlds can be exported to Gazebo, providing a route from PyRoboSim's simplified environments into that simulator. The optional ROS 2 interface supports ROS-based workflows. A web UI is available, while setup is local or Docker-based; the web interface does not mean the software is described as a hosted service.
