Our verdict on PSP.js

PSP.js is an open-source PSP emulator written in TypeScript for running in a web browser. It is aimed at developers and technically inclined users who want to work with PSP emulation in a web environment. The project uses high-level emulation without a PSP BIOS ROM, loads ISO and PBP game images, and includes keyboard control mapping and a fullscreen interface. Its supported platform is the web, making it a focused option rather than a broad multi-platform emulator product.

The emulation feature set is substantial for a browser-based project. PSP.js covers the Allegrex CPU and VFPU, KIRK-encrypted EBOOT decryption, WebGL rendering, and a software rasterizer. It also supports ATRAC3+ audio decoding and MPEG/PSMF video playback through WebCodecs. Browser-persisted savedata and exported save states extend the project beyond basic execution, while headless Node.js diagnostics provide a path for development and debugging outside the interactive browser interface.

The main qualification is project maturity and audience. PSP.js is explicitly marked as work in progress, and its local setup instructions, debugging tools, and headless diagnostics point toward development-oriented use rather than a finished consumer application. The documented platform support is web, and the documentation does not identify OpenGL, Vulkan, DirectX, or Metal backends. Choose PSP.js if browser-based PSP emulation, TypeScript development, or emulator diagnostics are the priority. Those seeking a mature, broadly platformed emulator or documented native graphics backends should look elsewhere.
