Proxygen review
A Mac-focused proxy for inspecting, editing, and testing app traffic, with a one-time license.

Proxygen is an HTTP debugging proxy for app developers and security testers working on Mac and iOS. Its native apps capture and display HTTP requests and responses, and the iOS app can capture traffic from apps on the device. That makes it a fit for developers investigating app behavior across those platforms, rather than teams seeking a proxy that spans a broader desktop ecosystem.
The feature set goes beyond viewing captured messages: users can filter and search traffic, intercept and edit requests and responses, then repeat requests. Automated request tests support assertions and generated test payloads. Proxygen also inspects WebSocket and server-sent event traffic, compares text and binary message contents, and can rewrite HTTP data with custom JavaScript scripts. HTTPS inspection uses TLS man-in-the-middle interception after configuration of a locally generated CA certificate. For mobile debugging, Send to Mac mirrors iOS traffic to a Mac, a useful fit when the investigation benefits from the Mac app’s inspection tools.
According to the vendor’s pricing page, the Personal License costs $39 one-time and allows up to two Mac activations; the Team License costs $299 one-time and allows up to 20. Both include all features and a transferable license key. The free download is a time-unlimited trial with limited features, not a full free plan, so ongoing use requires a paid license. The Mac app requires macOS 13 or later, and email is the listed support channel. Proxygen suits solo developers and small teams whose work centers on Mac and iOS app traffic; those needing other platforms or a free full-featured option should look elsewhere.
Proxygen pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Inspects HTTPS with TLS interception using a locally generated CA certificate
- Edits and repeats requests, with automated tests and assertions
- Mirrors iOS app traffic to Mac and inspects WebSocket and SSE traffic
- Where it doesn't
- Requires macOS 13 or later for the Mac app
- No full free plan; the limited-feature trial is not a free plan
- Platform focus is limited to macOS and iOS
