Provyn Vault stores selected personal information in a controlled vault and returns tokens for use by applications and downstream systems. Its feature set is aimed at platform, security, and data engineering teams handling sensitive data. Small teams can evaluate tokenization through the Free PoC tier, while the combination of APIs, access controls, audit logging, and deployment options also gives larger teams areas to assess for broader use.

The product combines deterministic tokenization, which supports stable joins, lookups, and duplicate detection, with format-preserving tokens for values such as card numbers and email addresses. Applications can call APIs for tokenization and detokenization. Retrieval requires authorization; role-based controls and scoped API keys govern access, while a detokenization request can include a reason and generate an audit record. An append-only audit log can be exported to Splunk or ELK. Subject-ID tracking and API-based erasure are also included, making data lifecycle handling a relevant part of its scope.

For application fit, listed ORM integrations include SQLAlchemy, Django ORM, Prisma, and Sequelize, alongside HashiCorp Vault Transit. Provyn Vault is offered for cloud and self-hosted deployment; the product description also refers to private-cloud and managed-cloud options. According to the vendor's pricing page, the free PoC tier includes 100,000 operations per month, while paid pricing is based on operation volume and available on request. That makes the free tier useful for a scoped evaluation, but teams planning ongoing production use should clarify costs at their expected volume. Choose it if these tokenization controls and integrations match your stack; consider alternatives if you need published paid pricing or an integration outside the listed set.

Provyn Vault pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Deterministic tokens support stable joins, lookups, and duplicate detection.
    • Format-preserving tokens can retain formats such as card numbers and emails.
    • Scoped keys, retrieval reasons, and exportable audit logs support controlled access.
  • Where it doesn't
    • The free tier is limited to proof of concept, not described as a production plan.
    • Paid pricing is available on request and based on operation volume.
    • Application teams must fit its available SDK and ORM integrations.
