Our verdict on PROMOTIC

PROMOTIC is a Windows SCADA/HMI development and runtime system for monitoring, visualizing and controlling industrial processes. MICROSYS positions it for automation design companies and industrial users across manufacturing, utilities, energy, HVAC and telemetry. Its object-oriented environment includes an hierarchical object tree, runtime visualization, process control, trends, alarms and event management. The free development and runtime options make it possible to explore both sides of the system, while the named development and runtime licences address different deployment needs.

Its strongest fit is for teams that need process views and communications in one self-hosted system. PROMOTIC stores timestamped trend values and supports alarm and event history with acknowledgement. Operators can access panels, trends and alarms in browsers through the PROMOTIC Web server, alongside a Windows desktop runtime. PLC communication drivers and interfaces include OPC UA and OPC DA, while listed protocol support spans S7, Modbus, DNP3, BACnet, KNX and others. SQL/ODBC database connectivity, JavaScript and VBScript scripting, user management and permissions add scope for application-specific workflows. This breadth suits varied industrial environments, though teams seeking a cloud-native service should look elsewhere.

Licensing is divided between development and runtime. PmDevFree and PmRtFree provide free development and runtime licences; PmDevSchool is a school development environment with network multilicence. PmDevForRt is for development with a runtime licence, while PmDevProf removes the application size limit. PmRt100, PmRt500 and PmRt1000 are runtime licences. The published starting price applies to the school development licence, and runtime or communication components may require additional licences, so buyers should map required components before budgeting. Email, phone and documentation are support channels, and GDPR is listed. PROMOTIC is a fit for teams that value broad connectivity and on-premises control; those wanting a simpler, cloud-first tool may prefer an alternative.
