PrivacyNotes is an end-to-end encrypted workspace for personal notes, tasks, files, journal entries, bookmarks, and vault items. It is designed for individual users who want private information available across web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. Encryption is performed on the device before synchronization, while offline reading, writing, and search continue with automatic resynchronization. Markdown editing, note links, tags, full-text search, encrypted attachments, and PIN or biometric protection extend it beyond a basic notes app.
The Free plan includes notes, tasks, files, vault, journal, and bookmarks, with sync across two devices, 50 MB of sync storage, and a 5 MB maximum file size. It also includes import and export plus offline use. Pro adds unlimited devices, 500 MB of sync storage, note history, PIN-protected notes, wellness analytics and export, extra themes, and Zen mode. The product supports imports from note apps, browser bookmarks, and password managers, including Obsidian, Evernote, Bitwarden, Standard Notes, Notesnook, UpNote, Google Keep, Simplenote, Samsung Notes, and Apple Journal. Export options include Markdown, JSON, HTML, PDF, and encrypted backups.
PrivacyNotes has a broad personal productivity scope while keeping privacy controls central. Self-destructing burn notes, encrypted file storage, and app or note protection suit sensitive personal records. Users can create an anonymous phrase-based account or sign in with Google, Apple, or GitHub. Open-source availability and coverage across major desktop and mobile platforms strengthen its fit for people moving between devices. It is less suitable for teams because it is designed as a single-person product without shared workspaces or team administration. Buyers seeking a private, flexible personal archive should consider it; organizations needing collaboration controls should choose a product built for shared work.
PrivacyNotes pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Encrypts data on the device before synchronization
- Works offline with automatic resynchronization
- Supports imports, exports, attachments, and six platforms
- Where it doesn't
- Free sync is limited to two devices and 50 MB
- No shared workspaces or team administration
- Founded in 2026, so its maturity track record is shorter
