Our verdict on Pokeweb
Pokeweb is a locally run web app for editing data in Pokémon Generation V ROMs. It is aimed at solo users who want to change game data through a browser interface on localhost rather than use a hosted service. Its scope includes map headers, items, Pokémon stats, level-up and TM/tutor learnsets, moves, encounters, trainers, evolutions, marts, grottos, and alternate forms. It can also search and display text banks, then export edited ROM data.
The workflow is self-hosted: users install Ruby and Python dependencies, run the server, and open the interface in a browser. The project documents installation for Windows and macOS. This approach gives users a local editing environment, but it does require handling dependencies and starting the server; it is less suited to someone looking for a ready-to-use hosted editor. Pokeweb is open source and has a free plan, while its listed support channel is the community.
Pokeweb’s focus is data editing rather than every part of ROM hacking. Its editors cover a broad set of Pokémon game data, and valid edits are saved automatically; the Logs tab shows edit history. It does not list graphics or patch editing, so users needing those capabilities should choose a tool that explicitly covers them. The project also describes itself as not thoroughly tested and originally made for personal use, a relevant caveat for users who need stronger reliability signals. Choose Pokeweb for local editing and export of Generation V data; look elsewhere for broader ROM asset or patch workflows.
