Our verdict on PocketCurator

PocketCurator is a free, open-source ROM management utility for compatible Linux retro gaming handhelds. It targets Rocknix, Knulli, dArkOS, Batocera, and AmberELEC devices using PortMaster. Its EmulationStation-style interface helps users review collections with screenshots, descriptions, ratings, genres, and region information, then mark and delete ROMs in bulk. Deletion can also remove referenced scraped media files, making it suited to on-device collection cleanup rather than general desktop library management.

For transfers, PocketCurator connects to WebDAV servers, discovers available servers, and supports bulk copying of ROMs and metadata. Copied games can be placed automatically into the appropriate system folders, while duplicate checks run before copying. The tool also supports games-list refreshes and backups, and it integrates with WebDAV, PortMaster, and EmulationStation. Fetch Mode is particularly relevant for handheld owners who maintain a collection on a WebDAV server and want to move games to the correct device locations without handling each system folder manually.

PocketCurator is a narrow fit rather than a full ROM archive manager. The published category specifications show Linux support, no archive support, duplicate detection, and no metadata-scraping capability; the project assumes collections are already scraped and reads existing metadata. It can operate without an internet connection after installation, while installation, updates, and WebDAV transfers may require connectivity. The built-in update checker and installer support maintenance, and the releases information identifies stable version 1.1.2 alongside pre-release builds. Choose PocketCurator for visual cleanup and WebDAV-based transfer on supported Linux handhelds; choose another tool if you need broader platform support, archive handling, or a metadata-scraping engine.
