Our verdict on Plastiq
Plastiq brings vendor payments and business payment collection into one platform. Businesses can pay suppliers by credit card, bank account, or eligible short-term financing, including vendors that do not accept cards directly; Plastiq delivers funds by check, ACH, EFT, or wire. Bill capture, future or recurring scheduling, approval workflows, roles, permissions, vendor management, and bulk payments address the work around paying suppliers. For businesses that also need to collect money, Plastiq Accept provides payment links, QR codes, checkout SDKs, and a virtual terminal. Its tools span small businesses through enterprise, with web, iOS, Android, and API access.
The payables workflow is the central strength. Bills can be captured from email, synced sources, or uploads, then connected to approvals and payment scheduling. Accounting sync covers QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, Oracle NetSuite, and Xero. For software providers embedding business payments, Connect APIs and widgets offer another route beyond the standard web and mobile product. This breadth makes Plastiq relevant to teams managing supplier payments alongside customer collections, rather than to merchants seeking only a conventional checkout processor.
According to the vendor's pricing page, Plastiq advertises no subscriptions and $0 for accepting credit cards, while transaction and delivery fees still apply. Acceptance products require business qualification and approval, so collection features may not be immediately available to every business. The published compliance details include SOC 2 and PCI DSS. Plastiq is a stronger fit for businesses that want bill workflows and multiple ways to pay vendors, with payment collection as an adjacent capability. A business primarily seeking general merchant processing should consider a product centered on that use case instead.
