phpLiteAdmin is a PHP-based web interface for administering SQLite2 and SQLite3 databases. It is designed for administrators who need a lightweight, self-hosted way to browse, search, edit, and maintain SQLite data without a broader database platform. The interface supports record insertion, editing, and deletion, along with graphical record search and custom SQL queries. It is distributed as free software under the GNU General Public License.

Its strongest fit is a narrow administrative workflow. Administrators can create, rename, empty, and drop tables; add, edit, and delete columns; manage indexes and triggers; and import or export SQL and CSV data. Deployment is also compact: the product can be deployed by uploading a single source file to a web server, provided the required PHP extensions support SQLite2 or SQLite3. A password-protected interface adds a basic access control layer for the administration surface.

The tradeoff is limited platform and operational breadth. phpLiteAdmin is self-hosted and centered on SQLite, with no automated provisioning, high-availability management, role or permission management, or audit logging. That makes it a practical choice for simple SQLite administration, small web projects, and direct database maintenance. Teams seeking centralized governance, enterprise access controls, auditing, or administration across several database engines should choose a broader database administration tool instead.

phpLiteAdmin pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Supports SQLite2 and SQLite3 through a web interface
    • Covers records, tables, columns, indexes, triggers, and SQL
    • Imports and exports SQL and CSV data with password protection
  • Where it doesn't
    • Focused on SQLite rather than multiple database engines
    • Requires self-hosting on a PHP-enabled web server
    • Does not provide automated provisioning, HA, permissions, or auditing
