PhotoPrism is a photo and video management application for individuals, teams, and organizations that want control over their media library. It can be self-hosted or accessed through supported cloud hosting, with tools for browsing, indexing, filtered search, automatic image classification, face recognition, metadata management, maps, album sharing, and WebDAV access. Its strongest fit is for self-hosters who want more than basic backup: the product combines library organization, discovery, and sharing across web, desktop, mobile, and server environments.

The plan structure gives PhotoPrism a clear entry point. Community costs €0 per month when billed annually and includes self-hosting, an open source AGPL license, unlimited storage, and community support. Essentials costs €2 per month when billed annually and adds additional user roles, 3D vector and satellite maps, and enhanced geocoding. Plus costs €6 per month when billed annually and adds a user management UI, vector graphics support, and private member chat. PikaPods costs $6.5 per month when billed annually and provides fully managed hosting, flexible storage, and provider support. The paid options therefore separate administration, mapping, collaboration, and hosting convenience rather than simply increasing a vendor-provided storage quota.

Organization is the product’s standout area. Users can search media properties, manage extracted metadata, group people through face recognition, browse interactive maps, and handle RAW, image, and video formats. PhotoPrism also supports secret-link album sharing, WebDAV upload and server access, PhotoSync, Ollama, and OpenAI integrations. Its official desktop and mobile experience is a Progressive Web App rather than a native app-store application, which may matter to buyers expecting a conventional installed client. Choose PhotoPrism for rich self-hosted organization and privacy control; choose an alternative if managed storage or native applications are higher priorities.
