pgEdge Cloud review
Multi-region PostgreSQL with branching, managed backups, and cloud or self-hosted deployment.

pgEdge Cloud is a PostgreSQL service for creating and operating single-node or distributed databases. It suits teams evaluating managed PostgreSQL across regions, as well as organizations that want to deploy in their own cloud account or self-host. The product provides a web dashboard, API, and command-line interface for cluster management. Current product pages present the offering as pgEdge Starfleet, with managed, BYO-cloud, and self-hosted options, so buyers should distinguish the current managed service from the legacy Cloud documentation's customer-account workflow.
The managed plans are billed monthly per database: Managed Small costs $25 and includes 1 vCPU, 2 GB memory, and 25 GB storage; Managed Large costs $99 with 2 vCPU, 8 GB memory, and 50 GB storage; Managed XL costs $249 with 4 vCPU, 16 GB memory, and 150 GB storage. Managed databases include 45-day backups. BYO Cloud has custom pricing quoted to architecture, while Self-Hosted pricing is quoted per deployment. A 14-day trial is available, and the trial does not require a card. This structure gives teams a defined entry point for managed use, while deployments needing customer-cloud control or self-hosting require a quote.
The feature set is notably suited to distributed PostgreSQL rather than a generic database menu: clusters can span cloud regions, and latency-based routing directs requests to the nearest database node. Copy-on-write branches support working with database copies, and metrics and IP allowlisting are included. Integrations include AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Terraform, Vercel, and Cloudflare Workers, alongside PostgreSQL ecosystem tools such as PostGIS, pgvector, pgBackRest, and PgBouncer. Built-in MCP, RAG, and PostgREST services extend the platform's tooling. Choose it when multi-region PostgreSQL and deployment flexibility matter; teams seeking a free plan or a broad support-channel choice should consider alternatives.
pgEdge Cloud pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Deploy PostgreSQL clusters across multiple cloud regions with latency-based routing.
- Create copy-on-write database branches and schedule managed backups.
- Manage clusters through a web dashboard, API, or command-line interface.
- Where it doesn't
- No free plan; Managed pricing starts at $25 per database per month.
- BYO Cloud and Self-Hosted pricing is custom and quoted to the deployment.
- Community is the listed support channel, which may not suit teams needing direct support.
