Our verdict on Overture Law

Overture Law is a web-based attorney referral platform for solo and small-firm lawyers. Its core workflow covers posting attorney referrals, receiving notifications by practice area and state, browsing open matters, responding to referrals, and choosing up to three attorneys. It is designed for firms that exchange referrals and need a structured way to document and administer those matters rather than for firms seeking a broad legal marketing suite.

The platform extends beyond matching. Attorneys can upload engagement agreements with client disclosures, invoice referred matters, and automatically split fees between referring and handling attorneys, with participants’ shares sent by direct deposit. Overture also positions its network around vetted attorneys, nationwide coverage, and professional communities connected to alumni groups, bar associations, and affinity networks. Those features make it relevant when referral administration, documentation, and payment coordination are central to the workflow.

Pricing follows a mixed access model: creating an account and posting referrals are free, while attorneys who wish to receive referrals pay a membership fee. Overture Law is therefore a better fit for firms that actively participate in referral exchanges than for firms looking only to distribute matters at no cost. Its narrow scope and web-only platform may also make it less suitable for teams looking for broader marketing functions or a wider software ecosystem. Firms that need referral tracking, disclosures, invoicing, and automated fee splitting should consider it; firms prioritizing general campaign management should look elsewhere.
