Our verdict on OS Maps
OS Maps is Ordnance Survey’s mapping and route-planning app for people planning walks, runs, hikes and rides. It combines route plotting, recording and following with OS Explorer and Landranger mapping, and it is available on web, iOS and Android. A free plan provides an entry point, while Premium adds offline map downloads and other mapping features. The product is a natural fit for outdoor users who want Ordnance Survey maps alongside route tools; people seeking a general-purpose navigation app should assess whether its outdoor focus matches their needs.
The paid choice is between OS Maps Premium Monthly Subscription at £6.99 per month and OS Maps Premium Annual Subscription at £34.99 per year, according to the vendor’s subscription page. Both plans list Premium mapping and features. The product details also list a 14-day free trial. Premium highlights include offline downloads, detailed OS leisure maps, 3D maps, GPX export and topographic maps for the USA, New Zealand and Australia. For users who mainly need online route planning, the free plan may be a sensible starting point; those needing downloaded maps should compare the paid billing options.
Route planning is the app’s main strength: users can plot, record and follow routes, browse partner routes, view maps in 3D and export routes as GPX. Account, route and activity syncing across devices supports moving between web and mobile. That combination suits walkers and other outdoor users who value OS mapping and route continuity. Its emphasis is on outdoor maps and routes rather than a broader set of general navigation capabilities, so it may not suit buyers whose priority is everyday navigation. Choose OS Maps for route-focused outdoor planning, particularly if offline OS mapping is important; consider alternatives if that is not your use case.
