OrbStack is a native macOS application for running Docker containers, Compose projects, Linux machines, and a local single-node Kubernetes cluster. It is aimed at developers who want a local container and virtual-machine environment with both graphical and command-line workflows. Docker CLI, Docker Compose, buildx, SSH, and Visual Studio Code Dev Containers support make it suitable for development projects that already use common container tooling. The published requirements specify macOS 14.0 or newer.

Its feature set covers both everyday container work and broader local infrastructure tasks. The Docker engine runs containers, while Compose and buildx support project orchestration and image workflows. Users can manage containers and volumes graphically, access container, image, volume, and machine files through Finder, and use port forwarding, bind mounts, and integrated virtual networking. Linux distributions, configurable memory and CPU limits, command-line operation, and headless operation extend it beyond a purely graphical desktop utility. On Apple Silicon, Rosetta-based x86 container emulation supports workloads that require that architecture.

Pricing separates personal use from commercial use. The Free plan supports personal, non-commercial use, running containers and Linux machines, and community support. Pro costs $8 per user per month when billed monthly and adds business and commercial use, Debug Shell, priority support, and batch organization purchases. Enterprise adds SAML SSO, invoice and PO payments, and contact with sales. OrbStack fits macOS developers who want containers, Linux VMs, and local Kubernetes together, but teams needing other desktop platforms should choose an alternative.
