Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Full Stack Disaster Recovery review
A deep OCI recovery orchestrator for teams standardizing full-stack failover.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Full Stack Disaster Recovery is a managed OCI service for orchestrating recovery of complete application stacks. It is aimed at mid-market and enterprise teams running applications across OCI regions or availability domains. Protection groups organize application-stack resources, while generated plans coordinate switchover, failover and drills across compute, databases, storage, networking, middleware and applications. The service supports Oracle and non-Oracle workloads when their resources remain within OCI regions and the same tenancy.
Pricing is usage-based across three plans. Full Stack Disaster Recovery Service (ECPU) charges for allocated ECPUs in DR protection groups, while the OCPU plan charges for allocated OCPUs in those groups. The Oracle Integration Cloud plan charges by Oracle Integration message packs. There is no free plan. The ecosystem fit is strongest for OCI estates: integrations include OCI Compute, Block Storage, File Storage, Object Storage, Autonomous AI Database, Base Database Service, Exadata Database Service, MySQL HeatWave, OKE, load balancers and Oracle Integration. Access is available through the OCI console, REST APIs, SDKs, CLI, Terraform and Resource Manager.
Its standout capability is coordinated, repeatable recovery across application-stack dependencies. Built-in plan generation, customization, readiness prechecks, pause, resume and cancel controls help structure operational runbooks, while scripts and OCI Functions extend automation. Cross-region and cross-availability-domain orchestration suits teams with distributed OCI deployments. Choose it when recovery operations center on OCI resources and require automated drills or failover workflows. Consider another approach if you need on-premises, hybrid or multicloud orchestration, which are described as future roadmap items, or if recovery-point objectives must be provided by the orchestration layer itself rather than underlying OCI replication services.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Full Stack Disaster Recovery pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Automates switchover, failover and drills with customizable DR plans
- Coordinates OCI compute, databases, storage, networking and OKE
- Offers REST APIs, SDKs, CLI, Terraform and Resource Manager access
- Where it doesn't
- Requires workloads and resources within OCI regions and one tenancy
- No free plan; billing uses allocated ECPU, OCPU or message-pack units
- RPO depends on underlying OCI replication services, not Full Stack DR
