Oracle Base Database Service runs Oracle AI Database Standard and Enterprise Edition workloads on virtual-machine database systems. It is designed for teams that want Oracle Database in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, multicloud environments, or Cloud@Customer while retaining co-managed control over database operations. Customers can select database editions, compute shapes, block storage, and license-included or BYOL consumption pricing. The service supports web and API access, making it suitable for organizations managing Oracle applications, development workloads, and enterprise database environments.

Its strongest fit is operational control paired with Oracle-specific capabilities. OCI tools and APIs support automated provisioning, patching, backup and recovery, and database lifecycle management. Compute and storage can scale independently, while deployments can use a single node or multi-node RAC configuration. Oracle Data Guard adds high availability and disaster-recovery capabilities, and Oracle APEX, AI Vector Search, and converged database features extend the service beyond basic database hosting. These options give teams room to match the architecture to their availability, development, and application requirements.

Pricing is consumption-based across the listed plans. Standard Edition provides Oracle AI Database Standard Edition, while Enterprise Edition offers Oracle AI Database Enterprise Edition with license-included or BYOL options. Enterprise Edition High Performance adds extended Enterprise Edition capabilities with consumption-based pricing. A separate BYOL plan supports Bring Your Own License and is available for x86 ECPU pricing, while Database Storage provides block volume database storage. Choose this service if Oracle compatibility, RAC, Data Guard, automation, and deployment flexibility matter. Teams seeking a narrowly focused, simpler hosting arrangement may prefer a less configurable option.
