Oracle Autonomous AI Database is a managed relational database service for organizations building transactional, analytical, JSON-centric, and AI-enabled applications. It is designed for teams that want Oracle database capabilities without handling routine provisioning, patching, upgrades, backups, scaling, monitoring, and administration themselves. Deployment options include Oracle Cloud serverless infrastructure, dedicated Exadata infrastructure, and Exadata Cloud@Customer. Access is available through SQL and PL/SQL APIs, web, API, and self-hosted environments.

Pricing includes a 30-day free trial and an Always Free plan priced at $0 per instance monthly for unlimited duration. Always Free provides 20 GB of storage per database, permits up to two instances per tenancy, and supports up to 30 simultaneous database sessions. The Autonomous AI Database for Developers plan provides a fixed-shape instance with 4 ECPUs and 20 GB of storage for development and testing. The main operational value is automation: compute and storage can scale elastically, backups run continuously, and point-in-time recovery is included. ECPU databases have 60 days of default backup retention, configurable from 1 to 60 days.

For continuity and platform fit, the service includes encryption, access controls, auditing, security tooling, Application Continuity, and optional Autonomous Data Guard standby databases with failover. It also connects with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle APEX, JDBC, Oracle Call Interface, Microsoft .NET Framework, and Oracle SQL Developer. Oracle APEX adds a low-code application path, while native JSON support covers document-oriented application needs within the relational service. Choose it when Oracle compatibility, automated administration, and continuity features matter. Teams that prioritize clearly defined read-replica coverage or need a broader free-service footprint should consider alternatives.
