  • Where it wins

    • Solves regularized frequency-domain multichannel MIMO inverses
    • Exports N×N FIR filters and CamillaDSP YAML configurations
    • Provides GUI plots plus command-line batch solving and validation
  • Where it doesn't

    • Needs REW impulse-response measurements for speaker/microphone inputs
    • Technical local setup and CamillaDSP workflows require audio expertise
    • Designed for measured loudspeaker systems rather than casual EQ tweaks

Our verdict on OptiMIMO

OptiMIMO is an open-source desktop application for designing active multichannel room-correction matrices. It targets audio and acoustics users who measure loudspeaker systems and need correction across multiple speaker and microphone positions. The software runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and its MIT-licensed distribution is available at no charge. A browser-based local GUI handles configuration, measurement assignment, solving, diagnostics and analysis, while command-line entry points support scripted workflows.

Its core workflow connects REW and CamillaDSP. OptiMIMO imports REW impulse responses through the REW HTTP API, assigns one response to each speaker/microphone crosspoint, builds a room matrix and solves a regularized frequency-domain MIMO inverse. The resulting N×N FIR correction filters can be exported for convolution, and the application can generate CamillaDSP branch, filter and sum YAML. Interactive response, filter-magnitude and impulse-envelope plots provide views into the correction process. Configurable speaker operating bands, gain caps and effort penalties give builders control over the solver's constraints.

OptiMIMO is particularly suited to technically minded solo or small-team users who already work with REW measurements and CamillaDSP-based playback. Command-line batch solving and configuration validation support repeatable, scripted projects, while the local interface keeps the workflow on the desktop. The trade-off is a specialized process: users must supply measured impulse responses and understand multichannel routing, FIR correction and CamillaDSP configuration. Those seeking quick automatic equalization without measurement preparation, or a hosted room-tuning service, should choose a simpler alternative. For open-source builders needing configurable MIMO inverses and exportable correction assets, OptiMIMO offers a focused toolset.
