OpenProcMon is an open-source process-monitoring application for 64-bit Windows. It is aimed at administrators, developers, security analysts, and technical users who need event-level visibility into process, file-system, registry, and network activity. Its kernel miniFilter driver captures activity in real time, while the desktop interface presents event tables, filtering, highlighting, process trees, activity summaries, and call-stack views. The free, open-source model makes it suited to users who want detailed diagnostics without a paid tier structure.

For investigation work, the strongest part of OpenProcMon is the breadth of its event analysis. Users can filter and highlight activity by process, PID, operation, path, result, or category, then inspect process relationships and call stacks with per-frame module resolution. It can read and write Sysinternals Process Monitor PML logs, and its command-line tools support capture and PML analysis. A Rust SDK provides driver communication, filtering, and event-stream consumption for developers building around the captured data. These capabilities favor deep troubleshooting over lightweight status monitoring.

OpenProcMon also extends beyond its desktop interface through MCP server and agent skill integration, with command-line capture available for automation-oriented workflows. The GPU-accelerated interface includes light and dark themes and English and Chinese localization. However, the project is under active development, targets 64-bit Windows only, and does not provide verified alerts or process actions. Choose it for detailed Windows diagnostics, programmable event access, and PML interoperability; consider an alternative if you need broader platform coverage, established alerting, or built-in remediation controls.
