Our verdict on OpenOTP Authentication Server
OpenOTP Authentication Server is a multi-factor authentication platform from RCDevs Security SA for organizations securing domain users, applications, VPNs, Wi-Fi, desktops, servers and remote access. It supports on-premise and cloud deployments across Linux and self-hosted environments, with mobile apps for iOS and Android. Its factor coverage includes software and hardware tokens, mobile push, FIDO2, passkeys, smart cards, PKI certificates, SMS, email, secure email, magic links and QR codes. Passwordless Windows login, adaptive access, device trust and contextual policies extend its use beyond basic second-factor prompts.
Pricing is structured around a renewable Freeware License and an Enterprise Subscription. The Freeware License supports up to 25 users, includes all features except high availability and encryption of configuration data, and remains valid for 365 days with renewal. The Enterprise Subscription uses annual per-user licensing, with user packs and pricing handled through sales; software maintenance is included. A 30-day trial is also available. This makes the freeware option relevant for small deployments, while larger organizations should plan around a quote-based subscription and the capabilities required for production use.
