Our verdict on OpenGuardrails
OpenGuardrails is a runtime security platform for AI agents that call tools, access systems, and use credentials. It evaluates model requests and responses through an HTTP API, returns allow, block, or redaction decisions, and records agent activity in a console. The product suits small teams that need policy enforcement, PII and secret detection, prompt-injection classifier support, and monitoring without starting with an enterprise deployment.
Pricing is organized across three paid monthly tiers. Starter costs $10 per month and includes secret masking on the host, a secret ledger, and detection at every step for secrets, PII, dangerous commands, and credential files. Pro costs $20 per month and adds model judges on every tool call, prompt, and reply, along with four ready-made policy templates. Max costs $100 per month and adds multimodal storage and display for images, audio, and documents, plus priority evaluation at high-traffic times. Enterprise adds private deployment, an enterprise SSO option, and support with an SLA. There is no free plan, so teams need a paid subscription to evaluate the commercial product.
Its strongest fit is agent runtime oversight: policy-based enforcement, detector composition, live monitoring, an explorer, findings triage, and a playground cover both decisions and operational review.
