Our verdict on OpenCapture

OpenCapture is a browser extension for capturing webpages as single images, aimed at people who want to save, mark up, or redact page content in the browser. It offers full-page scrolling capture with stitched output, as well as visible-area and selected-area capture. The extension supports Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, while the listed platform coverage is a Chrome extension. Its core extension is open source under AGPL-3.0-or-later, and captures and editing run locally in the browser without an account. That local workflow is a good fit for people who prefer not to send captures to a cloud service, but it is not a native desktop capture app.

The editing tools make the workflow more than a basic screenshot save: users can crop, annotate, blur or redact sensitive areas, and undo edits without a stated limit. Exports are available as PNG and PDF. For users focused on capturing long pages and adding notes or hiding details before saving, these are practical capabilities in one extension. OpenCapture does not offer cloud sharing, and integrations are not part of its listed feature set, so teams that need shared capture libraries or connected review workflows should look elsewhere. OCR support is also not among the described features, which makes it a less suitable choice for workflows that depend on extracting text from images.

The Free plan is $0 forever and includes the capture modes, editing tools, unlimited undo, and PNG and PDF export. The Supporter option costs $5 one-time for 1,000 credits and adds tiled logo or text watermarks with adjustable opacity, position, and angle; it has no subscription or renewal. That makes the paid option relevant mainly to users who need branded captures, while the core workflow remains free. Choose OpenCapture for local browser-based capture and editing; consider an alternative if you need cloud sharing, integrations, OCR, or a desktop application.
