Open Amy is a free Android calorie tracker for people who prefer a note-like food diary to a fixed-form meal log. It accepts text, dictation, photos, nutrition labels, saved meals, and barcode lookups, then estimates calories and macros. Diary entries remain editable, which gives users a way to correct estimates rather than treating them as final. Its focus is individual food logging and daily tracking: stats, streaks, and Android home-screen widgets are included, while the listed company-size fit is solo and small. It is a better fit for someone comfortable managing an Android app distributed through GitHub than for someone seeking a broadly available commercial service.

The logging options are the main distinction. Barcode lookup uses Open Food Facts, while AI-assisted calorie and macro estimates require the user’s own OpenRouter key. That means the AI functions are not simply built-in estimates available without configuration; users who do not want to supply a key can still use the app’s other entry methods. The diary, goals, saved meals, corrections, imports, and exports are stored locally on the device, and the vendor says no account is required. This local storage model and export support suit users who want control over their diary, though it is not a multi-platform workflow: Android is the only listed platform.

Open Amy has no subscription or ads according to its product description, and its listed price model is free. The tradeoff is its early status and distribution through GitHub Releases; F-Droid support is described as planned, not current. Community is the listed support channel. Choose it if free, on-device tracking and varied input methods matter more than polished distribution, and if you are willing to configure an OpenRouter key for AI estimates. Consider another calorie tracker if you need a mature release channel, account-based syncing, or support beyond community channels.
